Apple is preparing a major revamp of Siri that could transform the long-standing intelligent assistant into an AI chatbot, similar to ChatGPT, according to reports from Bloomberg. Internally codenamed “Campos,” the Siri chatbot is expected to make its mark as a core feature of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27, with the focus of unveiling at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June.
Unlike the current rule-based Siri, Campos will support natural language conversations like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude with both voice and text-based interactions. Users can simply search or ask questions, generate text and images, ask for a summary of information, get help with coding tasks, or even interact with on-screen content and open windows.
Deep Integration Across Apple Ecosystem
As Apple stated, the chatbot will be deeply integrated into Apple’s operating system rather than a standalone app. It will be available across apps such as Photos, Messages, Mail, TV, and Music.
Earlier this month, Apple entered into a partnership with Google to use its Gemini AI models to power Siri, making a significant move for Alphabet as it extends AI technology beyond the smartphone ecosystem. Apple will control the user interface and privacy architecture, running the system-on-device via its Private Cloud Compute, in line with its privacy-first positioning.
The Siri chatbot showcases a strategic move for Apple as it competes in the AI race, following mixed reactions to its initial Apple Intelligence rollout. Alongside growing competition from OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, Campos notes Apple’s new push to incorporate AI as its central, intelligent layer across its ecosystem.
