Gemini Live, designed for voice conversations, is now available with a real-time caption feature. Having already been seen by some users at the beginning of this month, Gemini Live is now available for all Android and iOS users as mentioned in 9-5Google. This feature enables you to engage in two-sided conversations with Gemini Live without needing to listen to its voice. The new update is ideal for users who need conversations in quiet mode, rather than getting responses verbally.
Gemini Live’s Caption Feature Stands Out: Here’s How!
When you first launch Gemini Live on your Android or iOS device, a rectangular caption button will appear in the right corner at the top. Tapping on the button will enable a floating box that offers the transcript of the response by Gemini. An important point is that you will not show what you are saying in real time. However, at the end of the conversation, a full transcript will be available.
It shows close to the center of the full-screen interface when in audio mode and moves to the top when in video streaming mode. These three lines of text cannot be adjusted or moved; they are fixed in place.
Here you can enable or disable the real-time caption feature. Gemini Live now has the option to automatically activate subtitles if the audio on the device is fully down. Previously, you had to set the volume to an audible level to get started with it.
The Motto Behind the New Feature!
The main purpose of Gemini Live is to have audio conversations with the AI model. Moreover, there are some scenarios where getting a spoken response is not appropriate.
These captions work best here. If you prefer reading over listening or are in a quiet place, the Gemini Live caption feature has got you covered.
Lastly, customization is also available, wherein a settings option is available as “Caption preferences.” To get there you need to first, Gemini > Settings, the option appears under the “Interrupt Live responses.” Tapping caption preferences will open a new page, where users have the flexibility to change the text, size, caption style, and more.
Once you start the caption setting, it will be on for all future conversations. However, if you leave the entire UI, it won’t show up, but if you come back in the middle, it will stay.
