Users today use several AI platforms to perform tasks such as drafting emails, creating invitation cards, and more. It understands your preferences and knows exactly what you need, considering past conversations. Migrating to a new AI assistant can be overwhelming, as you may worry about your past chat history, interests, and preferences.
This is now made easy with Google’s newly introduced “switching tools” for all its users, wherein they can migrate memories, chat history, and context from other AI apps such as ChatGPT and Claude to Gemini. It's nothing but a memory input feature!
The feature was in testing last month; it is now available to users. The main aim is to reduce friction again by re-training the AI platform, Gemini, according to your preferences, and building interactions from scratch.
What Exactly is the Memory Import Feature?
The memory import is the key feature that has complete knowledge of your key preferences, relationships, and interests, and more in Gemini. Here is how the feature works:
- To transfer your memory from another AI platform to Gemini, go to Settings and choose the new import option.
- Gemini provides a specific prompt that users need to copy and paste into their current AI app.
- The previous chatbot generates a summary of your data, which can be copied back to Gemini. Now, in the final step, Gemini AI assistant analyzes and stores all the information securely, so it can be used right in your next chat.
As per the company’s saying, “Once you import these memories, Gemini will know the same key facts you have shared with other apps, such as your interests, where you grew up, or your sibling's name, rather than starting from scratch.”
What are the Additional Enhancements Announced?
Additionally, Google now lets you import your entire chat history. You need to upload a Zip File for all the past conversations from the API of other AI tools and start working right where you ended. Users can continue their conversations within the Gemini AI. The feature combines Gemini’s Personal Intelligence capabilities, which share insights about your Google Photos and Gmail if granted permission.
Alongside, Google is also renaming its “Past Chats” feature to Memory, making a shift towards personalized AI experiences. The feature is available on the Settings page and is free for both paid and free accounts. It's clear that Gemini is making switching between AI platforms easy, increasing adoption, and standing up to the competition in the AI race.
